The character of young Winnetou, as depicted in the novels by Karl May, is not inherently racist. However, the portrayal of Native American culture in these novels has been criticized for perpetuating stereotypes and romanticizing the indigenous people. While Winnetou himself is depicted as a noble and heroic figure, the overall portrayal of Native Americans in the novels reflects the racial biases and misconceptions of the time in which they were written. It is important to consider the historical context and the impact of these portrayals on the perception of indigenous peoples. **

It also delves deeper into the cultural and historical context of the American frontier. The film, on the other hand, condenses the story and focuses more on action and visual spectacle. Additionally, the film may take creative liberties with the source material, altering certain plot points or character traits for cinematic effect. **
